Steel and Rock
A joint solo show by artists Sam Gare and Samuel Peacock at Boxpark Shoreditch, London E1 6GY
Special guest Curation worked on by Londonist writer and all round nice bloke Tabish “the shoes” Khan.
Steel and Rock is open and premiering at Boxpark Shoreditch, London as part of the artists release of their joint collaborative pieces. The 2 artists have released for the first time together a collection of 9 pieces of collaborative art on steel based on the Scottish wilderness and expansive countryside. Each piece is set on steel fired with oils mixed together with coffee in Peacock’s own subtle style. Then laser cut by Gare into the silhouette of one of Scotland’s stunning mountain ranges which inspires and drives her creativity.

Making the work was a really exciting process that involved a more detailed process of utilising my favourite mode, Fire. The transferral of heat to the underside blackened and charred the colours in such a way that they began to look like the unhospitable faces of some of the mountainsides you associate the Scottish wilderness with. The colours and coffee’s were multi layered and fired and then scraped back in a fashion which I associate with the intense weathering that happens in such wild places.
Both Sam and I have known Tabish since the days of working and displaying art at the now sadly closed Curious Duke Gallery in Shoreditch. He has followed our careers over the last 10 years and now devotes his time to writing about art on the London arts scene, both contemporary and some in a more urban vein. It was a pleasure to have him look at the new collections of both of us and hang the work in a fashion which he believes sells the work well.
Steel and Rock is open until Sunday October 1st at Boxpark Shoreditch LDN (Nearest Tube Shoreditch High Street, Overground) Late nights until 8 on Wednesday and Thursday. Closes at 6pm on Sunday.
