A new artspace in the historic city of Wuppertal, Germany has opened recently. Fronted by artist and long time friend and collaborator Fabian Freese, he has turned his studio in the old town of Wuppertal into a new artspace which has a roster of international artists exhibiting at the gallery throughout the calendar year, a lot of the shows coincide with what is happening creatively in the City. There are lots of spaces such as these springing up across Wuppertal at present as the city attracts more out of town art buyers.
It was great to get back to Germany as I have not exhibited there since showing in Berlin in the early part of 2011. Whilst in discussions with owner, Fabian about what to show, we touched on the idea of showcasing only the Annular collection as we felt that was a good fit for his clients. The Annular collection has been an ongoing series of work that I have created since the early 20’s and something that has proven popular with contemporary galleries, art buyers, corporates and interior companies alike for some time now, the Interior Design theme in Wuppertal is strong with some of the older buildings in the city having extensive room sizes , older beams and exposed features across the homes as well as tall ceilings, as well as a dearth of interior based home styling and product design boutiques.
Fabian Freese Artspace is open by appointment and Thursdays 5-8pm.
