Autumn Art Fairs in London 2024

Roys Art Fair 10th Edition Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse St, London

The last time I went to an art fair where I actually sold direct to the public was possibly in 2014/2015, I think at that event , I sold 6 or 7 paintings, which was a good return for me as It was also the first time that I had actually stood in front of the public and sold paintings. Previous to this, I had relied solely on galleries to sell with. I cannot give a reason why to I have never done more face to face selling, after a bit of soul searching, maybe it is because I had doubted my abilities as a seller, or in more microscopic analysis, finding my innate ability to do this, having had a shop for the last four years and learning how to from some people who I consider to be the best. Belief is a big part of all of this, I think this applies to any sole business, whether it is a visual art or part of the wider creative community,it all comes down to belief in yourself and the ability to get someone to believe in you, or your story.

I had met Roy in 2012/2013 when we both used to make artwork for gallery in Shoreditch called the Curious Duke Gallery, at the time possibly one of the largest independents in the area. We ended up doing the fairs together (Affordable Art Fairs) as well as joint shows in the gallery and at the odd coffee shop in London (Timberyard -7 Dials) and then eventually on to being involved in the first 3-4 Roys Art Fair’s as we had started this off together. I had moved away from Roys Artfair as I was producing work for lots of galleries at the time as well as working on Hotel commissions, I wasn’t giving it the right amount of time that it needed, so it was good to get back to working with Roy again in 2022 when we did a 10 year anniversary show at Boxpark entitled “Free Shots” a tagline that we used to shout in the street at the first fair to entice people in to the fair. The image above is from one of our shows together in Boxpark outside of a gallery. it was good to work with Roy again.

Above is one of the annular artworks which I will be taking along to this year’s fair. It is 39cm in size and mounted on a small timber frame behind the work itself.

Roys Artfair runs from September 27th-29th at Oxo Wharf Tower, London, SE19PH, tickets on the door or in advance.
