16 Jan New Framed “Coal” Impressions Released
A new Body of Work of Steel Contemporary Art to be Released in Time for Fresh Art Fair 2026
These artworks have been specifically designed for the show as they represent part of the thought process on how the colour formations for the larger artworks are created.
The colours are taken from a series of walks across the South Downs during the winter season and include the remaining coal scraps from the successful “Coal” solo show which took place at George Thornton Gallery during September 2025.
“In many respects, the pieces are a reflection of an ever changing landscape which morphs between the seasons, the steel has been purposefully decayed to reflect on architectural items which you sporadically wander upon when out exploring.
Part of the original vision for the collection was to keep the base colour similar with slight discrepancies in the teals with some of the works leading to a sandy ochre, the type of colour that you can sometimes capture when the sky is overcast. This all purposed on a backdrop of rusted looking and decayed steelworks.
The single uniformity with the series was the fact that each piece was roughly 15-15cm in size and roughly cut with an angle grinder to achieve the harsh angles to marry with the washed out colours.
The works is finished in a 30-30cm frame from a specialist framing company based in Cornwall. The tray effect seems to give something that is jagged an amazing finish. Framing is something that I avoid generally with the artwork, but I wanted to experiment with this for the series.
Fresh Art Fair will be taking place at Alexander Palace on January 29th January-1st February
