15 Jun Preparations for “Tide” solo show at Kahn Gallery
October 27th- November 18th, Kahn Gallery, Queens Parade, London, NW2 5HT
I am really pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting with Kahn Gallery, Based in London this coming October. Preparations are underway at present to begin creating a body of new work which will be exclusive to the gallery. The themes of the show will be somewhat multi layered in its approach and touch on colours created from scratch from observations around the coast. I seems to harvest a massive part of my creative input into the work from the coast, I think mainly as I live so close to it and also through the last couple of months it has provided solitude and an escape from the realities of the daily grind. Naming the show tide was easy if somewhat symbolic to the present course of events. There is a definite culture to living next to the sea. For me it is to explore and find items from the past, for others, it is to search for shapes and natural objects, for most people it is a release and a chance to breathe fresh air.
Capturing the colours across the coastal paths has always been a part of what I wanted to achieve as a painter. Working close enough to it, you gradually build up an understanding of how the seasons effect the rich colours you come across, not just the Azures and the Cobalt’s, but the mix between the blues and the aquamarines and the various shades of turquoise. The light of that certain day will always play a big part in what you capture in colour. In reality, I don’t think a camera can honestly do justice to the actual colour you are witnessing, so at times it is easier to remember and create back in the studio with some initial colour tests on paper. A practice I try and adhere to and something that I have carried with me since my career began.
Working with Kahn Gallery, UK represents a new phase of the career. The solo show “Tide” is scheduled to open at the end of October and near the tail end of the autumn art fair season. The show itself is taking place at the galleries new space which is based on Walm Lane in Willesden, North London and is hosted by gallery owner, Geraldine Hassler who will curate the event. You will also be able to see some of the collection which I have created on display at several art fairs across America and Europe across the season, these include the amazing Affordable Art Fair taking place at Metropolitan Pavilion in New York in September and the Luxembourg Art Fair happening in November.
