Contours

Highgate Contemporary Art Gallery

Contours is a marrying up of 2 artists who have exhibited together frequently both in Highgate, London at Hannah’s own Gallery and several galleries along the coastline of Britain. Both artists are keen to bring a sense of their own individual mark making and creating skills to the fore for this show.

The coastal paths of the West, along from the Cornish coastline and the contours in which nature and man has carved out towards the far tip of Kent’s wonderfully historic coastline continue to dominate and fascinate both artists, “We are both drawn to that point where the skyline reaches the sea, the chalky path on a windswept hill and the intermittent rays from the sun’s midday haze blasting through.”

“Flamsea View” 35/35cm Oil, Coffee Chalk and Paraffin Wax on Steel 2020.

The works contain chalk. I wanted to begin to include parts of the landscape in which I had found which still had the feeling of trade attached to it. The chalk was found whilst wandering the Long Man area around Wilmington which had a chalk quarry. As usual, all work is born in the pit of fire

“Selray Bay” 35/35cm Oils, coffee, chalk, paraffin wax on steel. 2020

Contours is on at Highgate Contemporary, 26 Highgate High Street, London, N6 5JG from Thursday 12th March 6.30-9pm and closes on the 30th March 2020.
